SalmonFest Seattle! -- Lake City's height of summer celebration. After 72 years as Pioneer Days, we are taking our annual summer festival up a notch with a new theme and a host of new activities all weekend!

SalmonFest Seattle sets its roots deep in the history of Seattle summer festivals. It began as the Lake City Summer festival where the original residents of this northeastern corner of the city held local summer gatherings. Neighbors sold their quilts, jams and preserves on the sidewalk, games were staged for the kids and the crowds feasted together.

But, as times changed so did the Lake City Summer Festival. It was time to present the festival in a new light, so in 1947 the festival was branded a new name, the Lake City Pioneer Days. Today much of the Pioneer spirit still lives on, deep within the roots of SalmonFest Seattle.

This year we'll be gearing up for SalmonFest Seattle a month early at our Cooks of Many Cultures Salmon Cook-off where local cooks can inspire us by preparing salmon with international seasoning and techniques.
